Enchanted Outlaw storms to victory in $100,000 Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap

Enchanted Outlaw stormed home to a dominating four and one-half length victory in the $100,000 Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino on Sunday. The former $5,000 claimer served notice to his route prowess by snapping the four-year reign of Some Ghost in this race.

Trained by Todd Fincher, Enchanted Outlaw showed his 8-length victory in the New Mexico Cup Classic at Zia Park was no fluke by generating a similar dazzling performance at Sunland Park. The extremely sharp five-year-old gelding is in the midst of a career high winning 6 of his last 7 races. Patiently ridden by Alfredo Juarez, Jr., Enchanted Outlaw shadowed the pace setting Runnin Red down the backstretch of the 1 and 1/16 mile feature for New Mexico-bred runners.

Passing the quarter mile marker, Enchanted Outlaw picked up steam and put away Runnin Red. He rumbled through the stretch with a vigorous stride and no rivals in sight. The dark bay gelding drew away with ease and stopped the clock in 1:45.54. The 2-1 post time favorite returned $6.80 on a $2 win ticket. Enchanted Outlaw picked up a $60,000 payday from his 8th career win in 17 starts. The multiple stakes champion is owned by Tedd Rushing and R. Lee Lewis of Lubbock, Texas. His career bankroll stands at over $255,000.

Lesters Secret ran a big race despite breaking from the outside #11 post position. Under jockey Luis Contreras, the son of Lester Boy commenced a bold rally in the final furlongs to gain second place. The 3-1 second choice finished in second place, one and one-quarter lengths in front of Some Ghost. The runner-up tried his best but could not threaten the winner. He earned $20,500 for the Simply the Best Thoroughreds and Henry Dominguez.

The legendary New Mexico-bred stakes winner Some Ghost was seeking his fifth straight win in the Albert Dominguez. The sturdy nine-year-old gelding had won the last four editions dating back to 2006. He uncorked another solid rally on Sunday and looked threatening passing the half mile marker. The 4-1 proposition could not make any dent on the high flying Enchanted Outlaw. Ridden by Ken Tohill, Some Ghost had to settle for third. The popular runner owns 15 wins, 10 seconds and 10 thirds from 43 starts. His career earnings are over $856,000.

Fullofenergy made a mild middle move to earn fourth place under jockey Joe Martinez. He sparked a $1 superfecta worth $823.80.
