Blazin N Shakin takes repeat win $125,000 Lou Wooten Handicap

King’s Water Lily dominates in $125,000 Enchantress Stakes

The classy Blazin N Shakin used her explosive acceleration to take a repeat win in the $125,000 Lou Wooten Handicap at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino on Sunday.

Once again, the ultra-consistent Quarter Horse showed her talent against a solid field of New Mexico-bred stakes winners. Under regular pilot Chris Zamora, the four-year-old grey mare by Chicks A Blazin broke alertly and found her best strides in mid-stretch and held sway from a game Ms Regard. Blazin N Shakin successfully defended her title in the Lou Wooten. She won by a neck and clocked the 400 yards in an exceptionally fast 19.03 seconds with no wind blowing. The winner earned a 98 speed index.

Blazin N Shakin was coming off stakes wins at SunRay Park and Zia Park. She improved her glossy record to 9 wins from 13 starts. She picked up a $75,000 paycheck for winning owner Mike Abraham of Bosque, New Mexico. Blazin N Shakin holds career earnings of over $525,000. The prolific stakes star is trained by Jamie Zamora. Blazin N Shakin is one of the finest New Mexico-bred Quarter Horse mares to ever run at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

Ms Regard produced another gallant effort but could not get past the winner. The runner up made a determined run after a swift start. The daughter of Chicks Regard was ridden by Tony Guymon. She earned $27,500 for the KH Logax, Inc. Ms Regard has earned nearly $290,000 from 7 career wins.

Tunes and jockey Esgar Ramirez came in third, beaten just over a length. Tunes completed a $2 trifecta worth $55.80.

Odds-on King’s Water Lily swept to a dominating 3 and 1/4 length victory in the inaugural running of the $125,000 Enchantress Stakes at one mile. Confidently ridden by Rico Flores, the 2-5 favorite relaxed comfortably off the pace before launching an aggressive move passing the quarter mile marker. The two-year-old daughter of King of the Hunt left no doubt about the outcome. She put her rivals away in upper stretch and strolled home the easiest of winners. The winning time was 1:40.41.

Trained by Rodney Richards, Kings Water Lily earned $75,000 for her owners, the 4 Eagles Racing Stables of Anthony, New Mexico.

Wild Time Tonight secured second place, finishing over 3 lengths in front of Girl Con.
