Bewild Hennessy takes command in $217,555 Copper Top Futurity
Heavenly Corona wins $50,000 Getaway Handicap

Bewild Hennessy took command on Saturday with a powerful two and
one-quarter length victory in the $217,555 Copper Top Futurity at
Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

Well supported by the fans at 2-1, Bewild Hennessy avenged an earlier
defeat in the trials to Ballado's Bullet. The fleet colt by former southwest
runner Roll Hennessy Roll pulled clear of Ballado's Bullet in deep stretch
and left no doubt to his ability.

Jockey Alfredo Juarez, Jr. rode the winner for trainer Todd Fincher.

Winning owner Charles Hunter received a hefty first place check of
$108,777.

Bewild Hennessy now moves to the top of the class among
New Mexico-bred two-year-old Thoroughbreds. His speed was
extremely impressive. The winning time for the four and one-half furlongs
was a crisp 50.80 seconds.

Ballado's Bullet ran a good second under jockey Freddie Martinez.

Waymore's Blues recovered from a slow start to earn a fast closing third
along the rail. Joe Martinez was his pilot.

Heavenly Corona swept to a one-half length victory in the $50,000 Getaway
Handicap at 870 yards. He had no problems gaining the early lead despite
breaking from the #8 post position.

The son of Corona Caliente responded boldly for jockey Salvador Martinez.
The winning duo sped through the distance in a fast 44.72 seconds.

Heavenly Corona earned $30,000 for owner Ray Herring.

Roy Marcom trains the 3-time winner who has blossomed into a champion
distance expert.

Feature Reward produced a very game effort to finish a close second.

Racing resumes on Sunday at 12:55 p.m. The Grade 1 $300,958 West
Texas Futurity and the $100,000 Sunland Park Handicap are the marquis
events.
